As we were on our first game drive on our first African safari, we were driving through Lake Nakuru National Park in north western Kenya. We were hoping to find many of the Big 5 (lion, rhino, cape buffalo, elephant, and leopard). We had just a glimpse of a black rhino, but were not able to get a good look. Cape buffalo, we would end up seeing, but at this point, we really wanted to see lions. After cresting a small hill, we came upon a majestic male lion near the road directly in front of us. We immediately stopped and I was able to get this shot before he sauntered off as another bus drove up alongside us. We were very happy to find our first Mr. Big Stuff! And he was only about 10 meters away!
I am a former educator, having spent 40 years in Nebraska and Iowa as a teacher, counselor, and school psychologist. In 2006 I returned to my love of art and began shooting nature, landscape, wildlife, and weddings. I loved the midwestern states but have also enjoyed traveling across the US and international locations. Taking photos of the special visions I saw prompted many of these photos.
