It was a nice late morning one July when on a return from Yellowstone National Park that I passed by the landmark in western Nebraska that served as a guidepost for those on the Oregon Trail. Chimney Rock displays it's unique form as a thunderstorm threatens the area. It is still a landmark that Nebraskans treasure to this day, having spent time on license plates, stamps, letterheads, and other displays. If you are out in western Nebraska alongside a 2-lane highway, you may just pass by this small but majestic landmark.
I am a former educator, having spent 40 years in Nebraska and Iowa as a teacher, counselor, and school psychologist. In 2006 I returned to my love of art and began shooting nature, landscape, wildlife, and weddings. I loved the midwestern states but have also enjoyed traveling across the US and international locations. Taking photos of the special visions I saw prompted many of these photos. You will see shots in Iowa, California, Montana, Wyoming in the US and shots from Italy, Greece, the Philippines, Great Britain, Germany and so on in this portfolio. The light is lovely here . . . and the sky. I especially like the strong contrast between the light greenish gold behind the rock and the dark sky just above it. You got a lot of drama in this one.
